MAY 3-5, 2019 AIR CADET BUSH SURVIVAL EXERCISE

OVERVIEW

As part of the Air Cadet mandatory program, all cadets have to participate to an aircrew bush survival exercise. The objective is to familiarize our cadets with the different techniques to survive in an outdoor environment. Cadets will learn how to build a shelter, make a fire, cook their meals and sleep in a military tent or an improvised shelter. They will have to apply a wide range of skills and to work as a team within their respective instructional levels under the leadership of their senior cadets and officers. Plenty of fun in perspective with many great things to learn in an outdoor environment.

COORDINATION INSTRUCTIONS

Cadets will report to Marie Victorin Community Center at 18:30 on Friday May 3, 2019 with their personal equipment listed in the kit list (pdf doc). Cadets will be transported by bus to the training site and will be brought back at departure point around 16:30 on Sunday May 5, 2019. Follow this link to access the equipment list: Letter to parents and equipment list

The exercise will take place at the Biathlon Mauricie site located on 2091 Rang Saint Flavien East, Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel, QC . We have access on site to a heated building that can shelter all our cadets should we face severe weather conditions.

We can be reached during the exercise in case of emergency at the squadron’s cell phone number: 438 520-3382.

IMPORTANT POINTS ABOUT THE EQUIPMENT

  • Cadets will be provided with a sleeping bag and camp insulated mattress in order to sleep in their improvised shelter or tent.

  • Because of recent precipitations and a long winter, pay special attention to the required footwear for this activity since the ground conditions at this time the year is wet and muddy. Typical rubber rain boots or waterproof winter boots is a must. It can be purchased at Walmart or Canadian Tire for a little less than $20. Running shoes at this time of the year in an outdoor environment is really not adequate.

  • Each cadet have to bring a small roll of twine (jute or synthetic). This item can be purchased for less than $5 at any dollar store or Canadian Tire.
